Share Housing in Sydney: Questionnaire

13/04/2018

Researchers at the University of Sydney are looking into people’s experience of share housing in Sydney and the way technology is incorporated into facilitating the everyday of housing. They have a short survey for anyone to complete. Dr Sophia Maalsen, the lead researcher, writes:

Share housing is increasingly common as people are excluded from home ownership due to high property prices. This includes older people who are increasingly choosing to share accommodation. Simultaneously, there is an increasing use of ‘smart’ technologies that influence people’s access to and experience of housing. Despite the increasing number of people living in share houses and for longer durations, we know relatively little about people’s experience of share housing and their experience is influenced by technology.

This questionnaire is part of a University research project about people’s experience of share housing in Sydney and the way technology is incorporated into facilitating the everyday of housing. This includes the use of online real estate platforms such as SeniorFlatmates.com.au, sharing economy services such as airtasker.com and technologies such as smart appliances, health trackers, etc. We will be asking about the way you use these technologies and how they influence your experience of share housing. The information you provide will contribute to research on the housing experiences of people in Sydney and the potential of technology to alleviate (or accentuate) the housing challenges face by many in current housing market contexts – an issue that is central to current urban planning and housing debates.

The questionnaire should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.

Your individual response and the details you provide will be kept completely confidential. Please read the participant information statement prior to completing the questionnaire. This information statement provides some background to this project and outlines how the information you provide will be used as well as how your confidentiality will be assured. Continuing with the questionnaire indicates that, having read and understood the information provided in the information statement, you have decided to participate.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email the project team: sophia.maalsen@sydney.edu.au or +61 0401 815 604.
