2 million people rent in NSW. And they need someone on their side! We have achieved major improvements in tenancy law. But there is more to do. You can help us continue this work by donating.
Campaign for tenants' rights
The TU and the network of Tenants' Advice and Advocacy Services (TAASs) regularly campaign for improvements in tenants' rights and for adequately funded services for tenants.
The Make Renting Fair campaign has launched - over 50 organisations including the TU and local TAASs are calling for greater security and stability for tenants in NSW.

There are two areas in which volunteers can help with our work
(a) Our main volunteering program is our Monday Advice Line, which runs in two shifts from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. The Advice Line is staffed by volunteers. All work is under the supervision of our Principal Solicitor, with session supervision by members of the TU's legal team. Advisers engage in giving initial advice, as well as general information and referrals. All volunteers on our Advice Line need to undertake our Tenants Advice and Advocacy training before giving advice. The course runs three times a year. You can attend sessions of the Advice Line before the training as an observer and to assist with some non-advice tasks. This can be good to determine if Advice Line is something you are interested in.
If you are interested in this work, email us with Advice Line in the Subject area of the email, telling us a little bit of your background - legal studies, relevant work experience. We don't need a full CV.
(b) General help with administrative and project work at the TU office. From time to time we need help with doing simple office things like photocopying, mail outs, putting together show bags for events and so on. We also sometimes need help in staffing stalls at community events.
If you are interested in this work, email us with General Volunteering in the Subject area of the email, telling us a little bit about your skills and experience.
