The Tenants' Union Housing News Digest compiles our pick of items from all the latest tenancy and housing media, sent once per week, on Thursdays.

New city public housing developments

Geoff Turnbull writes: ‘LAHC has announced two new public housing redevelopments in the City of Sydney. It has put proposals for the redevelopment of Franklyn Street Glebe and Explorer Street South Eveleigh out for pre-lodgement consultations until December 11 (see the communitiesplus.com.au website). LAHC expects the two sites together will deliver 850 new dwellings with about 250 social housing units.’ (South Sydney Herald)

Perth renters thrown lifeline as “perfect storm” housing crisis looms

Rental tenants in Western Australia who fear being kicked out on the street once a COVID-19 eviction moratorium lifts in March have been thrown a lifeline from the state government. A $30 million residential rent relief grant scheme will be expanded so landlords can receive a one-off payment equal to 75 per cent of rent arrears from the emergency pandemic period, worth up to $4000.
