Matt O'Sullivan The Sydney Morning Herald (Paywall)The operators of a century-old pub in The Rocks who plan to build a rooftop bar and restaurant have urged the developer of the nearby Sirius building to properly noise-proof apartments to avoid residents complaining about their live-music venue. ... The NSW government sold the Sirius building in 2019 to JDH Capital for $150 million. The sale followed a four-year community campaign to save the building from demolition. ... The City of Sydney, which "generally supported" the plans for the Sirius, aired concerns in its submission that the proposal did not offer affordable housing.

Dominic Brady Inside Housing (Paywall)Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has urged the government to reinstate its eviction ban to protect renters during lockdown after figures show a sharp increase in reports of rogue landlords during the coronavirus pandemic. City Hall said one in five reports through its ‘report a rogue landlord or agent’ online tool were in relation to an unfair eviction between March and December last year – it received more than 1,400 complaints.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, Sydney house prices increased 4 per cent over the year to December, CoreLogic data released on Monday morning shows. Regional NSW house prices jumped 8.8 per cent over the same period. In Melbourne, prices slumped 2 per cent but increased 5.5 per cent in regional Victoria.
