Being evicted? Can you share your story or photo?

Although there is a moratorium on evictions in NSW, it won't stop all evictions for all renterssee our explainer on the eviction moratorium here.

At this stage, the moratorium doesn't provide any real protection from evictions for 'no grounds', nor does it protect people already facing eviction for reasons other than rental arrears.

We know that renters affected by the COVID-19 crisis have already been evicted, and will continue to be – unless the government resolves these issues.

This is why, now more than ever, it's important to share your story. If you are facing eviction and you are willing to speak publicly, please fill in our 'media champions' form. We may not be able to tell everyone's story, but if possible we will be in touch. We regularly receive requests from journalists to be put in contact with tenants who are willing to speak publicly. We also regularly meet with politicians who ask us to provide case studies.

We need to show what is really happening to renters in order to stop these evictions.

Professional photojournalist Glenn Lockitch (who is also a tenant) has begun a project of documenting renters who are evicted due to the COVID-19 crisis. He writes:

Over the coming period I am going to photograph people who are being or have been evicted from their homes, as well as ill-treated by real estates/landlords due to COVID-19 difficulties. If you are or know of anyone who is going through this, and don't mind being photographed (can be done anonymously too), please private message me. Thanks.

We encourage you to contact us if you are willing to be photographed, or contact Glenn directly at facebook.com/glenn.lockitch or glennlockitchphotography.net
