Changes coming to renting in NSW – Residential Tenancies Act 2010

02/11/2018

You may have heard that changes are coming to renting laws in NSW.

The TUNSW has written three blog posts going through the changes and what we think about them. You can read them at the following links.

Part 1: https://tunswblog.blogspot.com/2018/09/what-you-need-to-know-about-renting.html

Part 2: https://tunswblog.blogspot.com/2018/10/what-you-need-to-know-about-renting.html

Part 3: https://tunswblog.blogspot.com/2018/11/what-you-need-to-know-about-renting.html

What happens next?
Although they have passed parliament, these changes do not have a start date yet. The changes will begin when the government 'proclaims' a start date. Some provisions relating to domestic violence came into effect in February 2019. The other changes are likely to be in the second half of 2019. Before then, the government needs to draft some regulations which are necessary for some changes to work.

We willl be updating the information on www.tenants.org.au to ensure our information continues to be the best you can find on renting in NSW!
