About us: New England and Western Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service (NEWTAAS) provides information, advice, advocacy and representation in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal to people who rent their homes in the New England, North West, Western and Far West areas of NSW. We provide advocacy and representation to people who meet our intake criteria and are unable to effectively advocate for themselves.

Armidale, Tamworth and Dubbo offices see tenants at face-to-face appointments by arrangement.

NEWTAAS Annual Report 2022

Spiralling rents threaten many tenants with homelessness if they lose their homes. Many tenants are being evicted for no reason (no grounds terminations). NEWTAAS Tenant Advocates assess a client's risk of homelessness based on income and the tenant's experience in sourcing a new home. Forging Ahead – Tenant Advocates Conference

In October 2021, around 100 Tenant Advocates from across NSW came together online for our annual Tenants Advice and Advocacy Services Conference, under the theme 'Forging Ahead'. It was a great opportunity for Tenant Advocates to hear from each other about the issues faced by different renters, and to learn, discuss and innovate in our practice. A main focus of the Conference this year was the huge challenges faced by renters due to COVID and the ongoing housing crisis, as well as how we can forge ahead and continue to improve.
