ABOUT

Illawarra and South Coast Tenants Service (ISCTAAS) provides free information, advice and advocacy. This includes help with applications and hearings in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. ISCTAAS helps Housing NSW tenants, community housing tenants, Aboriginal housing tenants, permanent residents of caravan parks and manufactured home estates, boarders and lodgers, and private tenants.

Our services are available to renters the Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Wingecarribee, Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla, and Bega Valley areas.

ISCTAAS is a program of Illawarra Community Legal Centre.

Standing Strong – Tenant Advocates Conference

In November 2022 almost 100 Tenant Advocates and guests gathered on Yuin Country for our Annual Conference. The theme of the conference this year was "Standing Strong" – in reference to the work Tenant Advocates do supporting tenants, especially through tough times like the last few years.

Forging Ahead – Tenant Advocates Conference

In October 2021, around 100 Tenant Advocates from across NSW came together online for our annual Tenants Advice and Advocacy Services Conference, under the theme 'Forging Ahead'. It was a great opportunity for Tenant Advocates to hear from each other about the issues faced by different renters, and to learn, discuss and innovate in our practice. A main focus of the Conference this year was the huge challenges faced by renters due to COVID and the ongoing housing crisis, as well as how we can forge ahead and continue to improve.

Staying Connected – Tenant Advocates Conference

Last week, over 100 Tenant Advocates participated in our first online Tenants Advice and Advocacy Services Conference. We explored a range of topics, including changes to tenancy laws, policy reform, and advocate work practice. We looked in detail at the effects COVID-19 has had on tenants lives, the Tribunal’s practices, tenancy law, and mental health.
