Aboriginal Legal Officer: Permanent Part-time (28 hours)

This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position.  As such it is exempt from NSW anti-discrimination legislation.

The Tenants’ Union of NSW (TU) is a Community Legal Centre specialising in housing law matters. It is also the peak organisation for tenants in NSW and the resource body for the NSW network of Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Services.

The Aboriginal Legal Officer provides advice, litigation, research, policy development and the delivery of training, primarily to the four Aboriginal Tenant Advice and Advocacy Services in NSW.

The practice concentrates on contract and land law.  The practice also undertakes matters in consumer, anti-discrimination, administrative, environmental, and credit and debt law.

The TU is located in Surry Hills, Sydney, and the Officer will work from there. The Officer will be expected to travel within New South Wales from time to time.
