The Tenants' Advice and Advocacy Program  (TAAP)

The Tenants Advice and Advocacy Program (TAAP) funds a network of 22 organisations across New South Wales. These services provide free information, advice and advocacy to tenants in their local areas. The network brings together the skills and expertise of a group of highly skilled advocates who work to ensure quality professional advice and advocacy is available to all tenants in New South Wales.

Tenants pay a bond at the start of their tenancy, which is lodged with the Rental Bond Board. A small proportion of the interest accrued on tenants’ bonds funds the program.

The network currently consists of:

  • 15 generalist services, covering all locations in New South Wales
  • Four specialist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services
  • A resourcing body for the Aboriginal tenancy services
  • A general resourcing body – the Tenants’ Union of NSW.

The network responds to approximately 30,000 requests annually for tenancy advice and provides ongoing assistance to approximately 10,000 tenants annually.
