I refer to your request that I pay an additional rental bond on the above premises.

I draw your attention to sections 9(2) and 27 of the Landlord and Tenant (Rental Bonds) Act 1977. Where premises are unfurnished, a landlord cannot demand an amount more than the rental for the first four weeks of the agreement and where the same tenant lives in the premises under a series of agreements, then those agreements are seen to be one.

I have a residential tenancy agreement dated [date] which shows that the first week’s rent on the premises was $[amount]. Consequently the maximum rental bond that can be demanded is $[amount]. This is the amount that I paid at the start of the tenancy and I am not required to pay any extra bond.
