Older Persons

Most older tenants have rights and responsibilities like other tenants under the Residential Tenancies Act 1987 and other NSW laws.

For information about your rights and responsibilities:

• contact your local Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service.

In some cases, you might be covered by the Landlord and Tenant (Amendment) Act 1948. These tenants (called protected tenants) are almost always older tenants who been living in their premises for a long time. Protected tenants have different rights and responsibilities to other tenants. For more information, contact Older Persons Tenants Service.

If you live in a retirement village or aged-care accommodation, you are probably covered by other laws. For information on your rights and responsibilities, contact The Aged-Care Rights Service.
